If you want to have your VOIP installation in your office or home, you can easily do this by following simple steps. The following instruction will tell you how to hook up your VoIP to your DSL modem or cable. The basic things you will need are as follows:

1.Cable or DSL modem

2.High Speed Internet Access

3.Ethernet Wire(s)

4.VOIP router or phone adapter

5.Subscription to VOIP Service

Step 1

You must turn off your network so that you can begin installing the device and you can do this in this following order. 1. Unplugging your DSL modem or cable from the electrical outlet. 2. For those who are using a router, unplug it also from the power supply. When these are unplugged, check if they have lights on them just to make sure there is no power left in them

Step 2

If your modem uses a cable network or a DSL, these are normally connected to your computer. If your internet connection uses a DSL modem, do not unplug it from the telephone jack. However, if you have a cable modem, do not disconnect the cable wire from the modem either. The next thing you should do is look at the back of your modem and search for the wires that leads from the back of your modem to your computer and follow that wire to your computer and remove that wire. You do not have to turn off your computer while doing this.

Step 3

Take the end of that wire you had remove then plug it into the port located at the back of your VOIP router. Usually it is labeled Internet but if there is no label you can plug this wire by finding a port the same like a phone jack only it is slightly larger. Other VOIP routers contain many ports so sometimes if there is no label that says Internet, there could probably be a WAN port in there. VOIP installation can be easy if you can see the labels of the ports you need to connect.

Step 4

For those who do not have router in their network, you can connect your computer to your VOIP router/adapter with the use of your Ethernet wire. You can do this by taking one end of the Ethernet wire and insert it into the back of the VOIP router that is labeled LAN or Ethernet. Get the other end of the wire and insert it into the Ethernet port located at the back of your computer. This port is where the DSL modem or cable is previously connected. Now, your cable or DSL modem must be connected to your VOIP router while your computer should be linked to your VOIP router. To put it simply, the modem must be linked through the internet port and the computer must be link through the Ethernet port.

Step 5

If you are using a wireless router in your network just follow the first step but make sure your modem and router are both unplugged from their power supply before doing the process. The wireless router is most likely linked to the modem via Ethernet wire so remove that wire. Now, connect your VOIP router to your modem as specified above. Take the Ethernet wire that is connected to your wireless router (this wire is previously connected to your modem) and connect it to any available LAN port or Ethernet port at the back of your VOIP router.

When all these steps are followed, you can now power on your unit and try using your VOIP by following the manual of the VOIP router. The trick here is simply to follow the manual step by step. VOIP installation is always easy as long as you religiously read port labels, know the system of your installation, and base your operation from the manual.
